Psychiatrist: "The biggest feeders of patriarchy are women themselves"

The next show, "The Dalina Show," addressed the challenges that teenage boys face in the days we live in. From social pressure, substance abuse, lack of emotional support, to the expectations that society places on them.

With personal stories and expert opinions, this show addressed the dilemma of why many boys are losing their way and how we can help them move forward, overcoming the challenges they constantly face.

Psychiatrist Neli Demi also spoke about this issue. Initially, he emphasized that such phenomena do not only occur in Albania, but also in many countries around the world, where men are facing several existential dilemmas/crises and more.

"In general, not only in Albania, but everywhere there is a phenomenon of confusion regarding non-sexual identity rather than gender and what a man is. This confusion is created by social, political and economic changes," he said.

On the other hand, according to the psychiatrist, one of the main reasons that has led boys to this phenomenon is the economic independence of women. According to him, economic empowerment has shaken the foundations of male security, which over the years have consisted of male dominance.

"There is an independence of girls, and this has shaken the foundations of security, based on the (so-called) dominance based on financial forces and economic exclusivity that boys have exercised."

"Men, as physically stronger, were the ones who provided food for the family, while women mainly stayed at home, but things have changed. There have been economic, mental changes, in the way positions are conceived, and politics has made great strides forward," he added.

But why do boys feel "at risk" from the empowerment of the opposite sex?

According to the expert, unfortunately, the nurturers of patriarchy are women themselves, who educate their sons in a way that makes them feel dominant and "pillars of society", so when they are faced with a completely different reality, such challenges arise.

"Unfortunately, I have to say that I agree with the expression that says that the biggest feeders of patriarchy are women, mothers, with the way they accept to raise their sons," he said.
