"One day, without realizing it, we will look in the mirror and realize that our image will always be more and more like our mother's."
I know, we all thought that as we grew up we wouldn't do the same things, or at least some of them, but that's not the case.
We will realize that we are becoming like our mothers when we suddenly start calling our children with the same expressions as her. When we cook “something quick” and realize that we are making the exact same recipe that she used to make for us when we were children. When we panic because our child is late, even though it has only been 5 minutes since the usual time.
We'll understand when the child has stared at the piece of pie on our plate and we'll pretend like we're no longer hungry.
When we start to feel guilty for some child's actions, even though we haven't done anything wrong. When we want to protect everyone, but forget to take care of ourselves.
We will understand our mother the day someone says to us: "How much she looks like her!" And at first it will seem strange, but then we will laugh at ourselves.
Because yes, one day, we all become like our mom. Maybe not in everything. But in the way we love. In the way we try. In the way we don't give up, even when no one notices.
And that's perhaps the irony and beauty of motherhood.
