American billionaire and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has married his longtime partner, presenter Lauren Sánchez, in a lavish wedding in Venice, Italy. The ceremony, which took place on the picturesque island of San Giorgio Maggiore, brought together well-known names from the world of celebrity such as Oprah Winfrey, Kim Kardashian, Tom Brady, Leonardo DiCaprio, Bill Gates, Barbara Streisand and others.
Although the couple had been legally married before, this wedding was organized as a three-day celebration of extraordinary proportions, with a reported budget of around $50 million. The wedding was organized by the same planners who had prepared the wedding of George and Amal Clooney.
Lauren Sánchez shone in a white dress with long sleeves and lace corset by Dolce & Gabbana, while Bezos wore a classic tuxedo. The ceremony was accompanied by romantic music: singer Matteo Bocelli performed the famous song "Can't Help Falling in Love", while a gospel choir thrilled the audience with "Higher Love" by Whitney Houston.
After exchanging vows and the famous kiss, the celebration continued with a lavish reception and a fireworks display that lit up the Venetian sky. Before the ceremony, the couple had hosted a welcome dinner at a well-known church, but that was cut short due to bad weather, as well as a foam party on Bezos' $500 million super-luxury yacht, the "Chorus."
Although the wedding attracted global attention, there was also a backlash in the city. Protesters in Venice expressed their displeasure with the billionaire with messages such as: “If you can rent the whole city for the wedding, you can pay more taxes.” In response, the couple reportedly made donations to several local organizations as part of the wedding plans.
Bezos and Sánchez have been together since 2019, but only appeared publicly as a couple after their divorces from previous partners were finalized. Bezos has four children with ex-wife MacKenzie Scott, while Sánchez has three children from previous relationships.
