Argentine prosecutors are investigating Diego Maradona's doctor, for possible murders after the death of the football legend 6 days ago.
30 police officers in Buenos Aires have searched the house and private clinic of dr. Leopoldo Luque and 20 others have been to his clinic as they try to determine if there was negligence in treating Maradona after surgery.
The 60-year-old died of a heart attack at his home where he was recovering.
Dr. Luque has not been arrested. He denies any possible charges.
Officials want to know about the involvement of 39-year-old doctor Luque in Maradona's recovery commitments at the home of the late star.
What is the line of defense of dr. Luque?
In an exciting press conference on Sunday, dr. Leopoldo, who has been described as the footballer's personal doctor, cried, saying he had done everything he could to save a friend's life. The doctor said Maradona "was very sad recently".
At one point, he responded to reporters:
"You want to know what I'm responsible for? For his love, for caring for him, for prolonging his life, for improving it to the end. "
The doctor said he had done "everything he could, to the impossible".
Then, addressing some of the concerns that the authorities are examining, dr. Luque cast doubt on what his role really was.
"If you ask me, I am a neurological surgeon and my job is over. I'm done with it, "he said, referring to the November operation.
Luque said insisting on Maradona's recovery at home was not his responsibility.
"He [Maradona] should have gone to a rehab center. He did not want to," said Dr. Luque, calling the felt star "uncontrollable."
He also said he did not know why he did not have a defibrillator or who was responsible for the fact that there was no ambulance outside Maradona's house.
And added:
"Diego was very sad, he wanted to be alone, and that's not because he did not like his daughters, his family or those around him."
