According to a recent study, the color of sugar, gum, and flamingos is the world's oldest color.
Researchers discovered the ancient pink pigments on 1.1 billion-year-old stones beneath the Sahara Desert, in Basin Taoudeni in Mauritania, West Africa. Geologically, the pigments in question are the oldest color in the world.
According to Dr. Nur Gueneli, who undertook the study as part of a doctoral dissertation, pink pigments are 500 million years older than those previously considered the oldest in the world, which were produced by ancient oceanic organisms.
"Bright pink pigments are the molecular chlorophyll fossils that were produced by ancient photosynthetic organisms who lived in a long-lost ocean," Dr. Gueneli in a media announcement.
The seekers broke billions of years old stones until they turned to thin powder, and then extracted and analyzed the molecules of ancient organisms within them.
When diluted, the pigments displayed a light pink color. As they stay focused, pigments get red like red blood and deep purple.
