Google is trying to reclaim the crown as the leader in artificial intelligence with PalM 2, a "next-generation language model" that the company says outperforms other systems.
Like other "models" such as OpenAI's ChatGPT, PaLM 2 is a general-purpose artificial intelligence model that can be used for functions similar to those of ChatGPT.
In addition, PaLM 2 can also be used to translate between languages, write computer code, or even analyze and respond to images.
By combining these capabilities, a user can ask a question in English about a restaurant in Bulgaria, for example. After asking the question, the system will be able to search the Internet for Bulgarian answers, find an answer, translate the answer into English as well as add photos of the location.
Google emphasized that PaLM 2 was created with a corpus containing over 100 languages, making it, according to Google, "excellent in multilingual tasks".
It should be added that Google introduced PaLM 2 at a time when artificial intelligence programs are being talked about and used a lot. That being said, there is a possibility that PaLM 2 has not been tested enough for issues related to security and how it handles various and sensitive topics.
