We have often seen them on the red carpet kissing. In interviews speaking lovingly about each other. On social networks with dedications that have made us believe that "true love exists". But even great loves get tired. Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are officially on the road to separation after almost two decades of marriage.
According to sources close to the couple, the main reason? A mix of lack of intimacy, physical distance, and... packed schedules. All of which seem to have caused the relationship to go from passion and partnership to emotionless cohabitation.
A source for the Daily Mail has revealed that the couple's relationship had long been not what it seemed.
"There is no more intimacy between them, they are simply acting like forced spouses," the source said.
Keith Urban, according to the same source, was no longer happy in his marriage and decided to confront Nicole. Unfortunately, this confrontation turned out to be the key moment that led to the split. Kidman, for her part, is said to be left shaken and unprepared, but is still hopeful that things will work out, especially with the holidays approaching and Urban's birthday next month.
Nicole, home alone, holding everything together
While Keith is on tour with "High and Alive" in the US and Canada, Nicole has remained in Nashville with their daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret. Sources tell TMZ that she has been "the force that keeps them all together" during this difficult time.
Meanwhile, Keith has moved out of the family mansion, a $4 million estate, into a new home in Nashville. According to The Blast, his decision to live alone is a clear indication that the split is more than just a passing crisis.
Why did they quietly walk away from each other?
One of the biggest reasons for the tension was physical distance. Nicole, over the summer, lived in London for the filming of "Practical Magic 2", where she rented a villa for 65 thousand pounds a month. That means: thousands of kilometers away from her husband.
And after Nicole's mother died last year, sources say things have changed significantly. Although they spoke every day, their bond was fading.
"It's shocking how much time they've been apart since Nicole's mother died," a source told the Daily Mail. "It's like they've gone their separate ways since then."
Nicole doesn't give up: "I didn't want this breakup"
Even though Keith has taken a step back, Nicole continues to fight for the marriage. Just this June, she posted a romantic dedication for their 19th anniversary:
“Happy anniversary, honey @KeithUrban”
And in December 2024, in an interview with PEOPLE, she spoke enthusiastically about the romance:
"I like it when he invites me to dinner. He doesn't tell me where he's taking me, I like surprises. Surprise me, honey!" Nicole said.
And now... what happens?
The couple married in Sydney in 2006 and were considered one of the most enduring relationships in Hollywood for many years. And although they are currently going through a difficult period, sources say that hope for a reunion still exists.
"They've been together for almost two decades. There's still a chance they could work things out," a source told The Blast.
