According to a study by EliteSingles, conducted on more than 450,000 dating app users, men aged 20 to 29 prefer to date older women.
Why do younger men choose older women?
Psychologist Sam Owen links this trend to changes in gender roles and the advancement of equality in society:
“This may reflect shifts in modern society towards greater gender equality,” Owen explains. “Younger men may find that older women are able to successfully manage multiple responsibilities at once, including career, children, home, finances, physical activity and social life, which makes them more intriguing and attractive.”
Women, meanwhile, prefer to be younger in relationships.
Ironically, while younger men are attracted to older women, the study showed that most women, especially those over 50, prefer to have younger partners.
The ideal? A partner about 6 years older.
Older women tend to have more experience in life and know what they want, which makes relationships clearer and less complicated. They are often more independent and able to balance responsibilities, which makes them attractive. Changing gender roles and equality in society have paved the way for this trend. For many younger men, an older woman represents stability, maturity, and self-confidence.
