I vividly remember the first time I saw Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful" music video, which came out when I was 12 years old. If you've ever seen the original video , you can understand why I (and not just me of course) was so impressed. Now, Aguilera has decided to make a whole new generation of 12-year-olds cry by bringing back another video for the song.
The 2002 video was groundbreaking for its time because, in addition to showing teenagers struggling with body image, it also included everything that was missing from television at the time, including two men passionately kissing and a trans woman applying make-up. her.
The new 2022 video is a little more abstract, but has more or less the same message.
The singer herself explained why she chose to update the video and why she thinks the song's message is as relevant today as it ever was.
“We are beautiful, no matter what they say! A message that will always stay with me and one that I prioritize instilling in my children in every chapter of their lives," she wrote.
"The original 'Beautiful' video was intended to bring awareness and a sense of compassion in the face of judgment, criticism and outside opinions. It still carries an important message to remember our core values ??outside of what we are fed… to find a sense of balance and to to accept ourselves for who we are."
