Joe Manganiello has told his side of the story, saying that the divorce with Sofia Vergara did not happen because they did not agree to have a child, thus refuting the statement of his ex-wife. In his interview with Men's Journal, Joe stated that this did not end their relationship.
"Divorce happened because sometimes people go in different directions and that happens." He also added that the former couple had been trying for a year and a half to have a child.
He also stated that at the beginning of their relationship (in 2014), together with his ex-wife, they had a long conversation about children. "I told her that if she had closed the chapter with the children, I understood. I said, "Just tell me and everything is fine," adding that he had sworn to Sofia that if they didn't have children, he would never leave. "And I didn't leave," Joe pointed out.
In January of this year, Vergara told "El País" that she and Manganiello ended their marriage because they did not agree on the future of their family. "My marriage broke up because my husband was younger. He wanted children, while I didn't want to be an old mother", said the actress of "Griselda" at the time.
Manganiello responded with an interview in "Men's Health", where he said: "To portray myself as a man in mid-life crisis and after 9 years I give someone an ultimatum, saying: 'Do this unhealthy thing for your body. yours, or I'll leave"? I'm not like that."
The pair announced they would be divorcing in July 2023, ending their 7-year marriage. Today, each of them has moved on romantically. Sofia has been in a relationship since October 2023 with doctor Justin Saliman, while Joe, with Caitlin O'Connor, with whom he plans to start a family.
