When Amadeus, Sanremo's artistic director, announced the names of the women who would climb the festival scene, there was a sort of "revolt" on social media for Rula Jebreal. Referring to the postings documented by the Italian media, some of the followers have to say that they did not agree with Jebreal's participation.
Rula Jebreal, with dual Israeli and Italian citizenship, is a prominent Italian analyst, politician and journalist. According to information on her Wikipedia page, Rula studied at the University of Bologna, where she graduated in physiotherapy. He has 12 years of experience in the field of journalism and has authored, among other things, three books, "Miral", "The Bride of Aswan" and "Rejected".
Why was it criticized by the Italians?
Her earlier statements - in which she called Italians racist - were not well received. In addition, photos of her with Harvey Weinstein , the producer accused of sexually abusing Hollywood, were also shared on social media. It is noteworthy that the film company Weinstein Company has previously made a film based on Jebreal's book "Miral".
In a recent interview for Vanity Fair Italy, Rula also talked about meeting Weinstein.
"I once saw him mistreat one of his aides," the journalist said. ?He shouted at them and she ran away crying. I told him he was lucky, because if it had happened to me, I'd beat him; he would end up in the hospital while I was in prison. I felt total despair. Women like me have faced such cases of domestic abuse. ?
Today's Sanremo night, Rula will have a monologue focused on violence against women. In an interview with Vanity Fair, she said:
?My mother killed herself after a constant story of domestic violence between the ages of 13 and 18. I talk about facts I see. [Violence against women] is a battle that must be fought by men as well. Not fighting means that nothing has changed since my suicide. I owe it to my daughter. ?
