Ismail Kadare has been announced the winner of the Neustadt International Prize for Literature for 2020, an award given every two years and considered one of the most prestigious international literary prizes. Sponsored by the University of Oklahoma, it is widely known as the American Nobel Prize in Literature.

Since its founding in 1970, its laureates and nominees have also been awarded the Nobel Prize. The Neustadt Award comes with a silver eagle feather and $ 50,000.

As one of the world's biggest literary events, the Neustadt Literature Festival is a celebration of international books and culture, sponsored by World Literature Today and hosted by the University of Oklahoma.
