A video of David Beckham asking his wife, Victoria, to "tell the truth" during an interview after she said she came from a working-class family went viral a few years ago.
In the clip that made the rounds on the internet, the former footballer asks her several times what car her father drove in the 80s, until she finally, amidst laughter, admits:
“A Rolls-Royce.”
Now, two years later, Victoria Beckham is explaining the whole story in a new Netflix documentary, which focuses on her life and career.
At one point, the fashion designer opens up about her childhood and how her parents, Anthony and Jackie Adams, built everything from scratch. Both appear in the documentary, telling of the challenges and dedication that shaped her as a person and as a fashion icon.
Victoria says she grew up in the village of Goffs Oak in Hertfordshire, outside London, with her brother Christian and younger sister, Louise.
“My parents started from nothing,” she says in the documentary.
"To send me to drama school, they had to remortgage the house."
Over the years, his father, Anthony Adams, built a successful electrical equipment business.
"My parents still live in the same house I grew up in. When they bought it, it was just a ruin. My father built it himself," Victoria said.
In the documentary, Anthony recalls that his income came from selling electrical appliances, while his wife, Jackie, adds:
“Tony has always had an incredible work ethic.”
In a previous interview, Victoria explained the famous Rolls-Royce episode:
"Yes, my father had a Rolls-Royce, but he also had a white van. I come from a working-class family, in the '80s, my father was a businessman. He and my mother started the business at the kitchen table and were very successful, so later I bought a Rolls-Royce."
