A friend of King Charles III has said he is disappointed by Prince Harry's claim that his father will not speak to him. Harry gave an interview to BBC News on Friday, where he expressed his feelings about losing his appeal for funded security after he gave up royal duties and moved to the US in 2020, as well as the fact that he does not speak to King Charles.
According to the anonymous source, the king had made it clear that he did not want to be involved in this matter, so his son's statement disappointed him.
"What has disappointed and hurt him most on a personal level is Harry's failure to respect this principle. And that his supporters think to some extent that his father does not care about the family," the source said.
A palace spokesman also defended the appeal outcome in a public statement: “All of these issues have been reviewed repeatedly and in detail by the courts,” emphasizing that in all cases, the result was the same.
The king's disappointment comes after a surprise interview by Harry, 40, with the BBC, where he claimed that "some members" of the royal family "will never forgive" him for some actions he has taken in the past, including the publication of the book "Spare" in 2023, where he revealed some of the royal family's "secrets".
Despite Harry's ongoing "differences" with his family, he said there was "no point in continuing to fight" and that he would like to reconcile with his father, especially after his cancer diagnosis in early 2024.
"He doesn't want to talk to me because of this security issue," Harry told the BBC. "But it would be good if we could come to an agreement," he added, adding: "This situation that has been going on for five years, which is about people's lives and safety, is the most critical point. It's the only thing that's stuck between us."
Harry — who stepped down from royal duties and moved to California in 2020 — added that if the royals "don't want this reconciliation" and that it's totally up to them.
