Actress Drew Barrymore decided to "publicly distance herself" from Woody Allen, saying she believes she was "manipulated" to work with her.
The 46-year-old admitted to Allen's adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, that she regretted starring in "Everyone Says I Love You" in 1996 - 4 years after Dylan Farrow accused Allen of sexually abusing her while she was children.
"At the time, there was no greater achievement than working with Allen," Barrymore said during the conversation.
"Then I became a child myself and that changed me. I realized that I was basically one of the people who was manipulated to not look beyond what it was."
Dylan Farrow, now 35, told him he "appreciates the support", saying he "knows it takes courage to speak in Hollywood".
"It's very valuable to me. It's easy to say: Of course you should not work with him. He is a monster, he is an idiot etc, but I think it is very bold and good of you that my story and "What I went through was enough for you to reconsider your decision."
In the documentary series "Allen vs. Farrow", Dylan spoke at length about the abuse he "allegedly experienced" in the summer of 1992. In one of the series, a previously unpublished video is shown, shot by Dylan's mother , Mia Farrow. The video shows 7-year-old Dylan as his mother claims that Allen touched him inappropriately in the attic of the house.
Allen, now 85, was never charged or prosecuted. Five years after the indictment, he married the adopted daughter of his old (Mia) partner, Soon-Yi Previn. (Read more on this issue: How Woody Allen married the girl his girlfriend adopted .)
In a statement in February, Allen said of the documentary:
"These series had no interest in telling the truth. They just spent years secretly collaborating with the Farrow family to create a bunch of lies."
