Many artists with hundreds of thousands of followers in recent years have shown their audiences new ways of thinking about love, sex and intimacy, often risking shutting down their Instagram accounts for "community breach".

Erotic art has always existed. The oldest female genital carvings, found in Abri Castanet, a cave located in the south of France, date back at least 37,000 years.
