9 similar things we judge differently depending on a person's wealth

Not that we want to make a moral of the Cinderella story, but it is true that when it comes to the things we have listed below, the judgment of each person is made with double standards depending on that person's economic possibilities. Here are some of these things:

1. Clothes that are worn

When a rich person wears simple clothes, they are told how modest and down-to-earth they are, but a poor person in the same outfit is seen as untidy, even dirty.

2. Free time

For rich people, not working is interpreted as self-care. Prioritizing rest is a way to seek inner peace. For poor people, not working means you're lazy, period.

3. Therapy

If you're rich, therapy is a path to self-awareness and self-improvement. If you're poor, going to therapy is seen as a character flaw because you have problems you can't deal with on your own.

4. Owning a pet

A rich person who has pets is an animal lover, but a poor person with pets is spending money on things they can't actually afford. A rich pet parent is described as selfless, while a poor pet parent is selfish.

5. Divorcees

Being poor means facing more negative social commentary about divorce. If you are rich and divorced, you are praised for putting your needs first and focusing on happiness and independence.

6. Having children

If you are rich, having a big family is celebrated, but if you are poor, people judge you differently. People judge your personal decisions by calling you irresponsible. Having more money makes you more entitled to have children. You are praised as a family-oriented person, without a single harsh word.

7. Hiring a nanny

Rich people with nannies are still seen as good parents, as they are simply investing in taking care of themselves and delegating their household duties.

Being poor means being judged for your parenting decisions, and the outcome is rarely in your favor. Hiring a nanny becomes a moral issue, and you feel ashamed that you can't raise your own children.

8. Living with parents

Society says you're failing in life if you're still living with your parents in your 20s, while it tells rich people how much they're thriving.

9. Having a hobby

When you are rich, having a hobby makes you a complete individual, who can apply to top universities and show them how talented and capable you are. But if you have a hobby when you are poor, you are wasting your time on things that don't matter.
