Actress Olivia Munn reveals she has breast cancer

One post on Instagram was enough to share with all her followers the difficult news about her last battle with breast cancer! Olivia Munn is another story that should serve as a reminder for the prevention and early diagnosis of this disease.

Olivia, 43, shared her experience on Instagram revealing that she has undergone four difficult surgeries in the past 10 months. Thirty days after a biopsy, she had a double mastectomy (surgical removal of both breasts). "Surprisingly I only cried twice," the actress wrote in the post. "I kept the diagnosis private, the anxiety, the drug therapy and the recovery. I needed to breathe and get through one of the hardest parts of my life," she continues.

How did Olivia Munn find out she had breast cancer?

The actress described in detail her entire journey, from taking a genetic test in February 2023, during which she tested negative for 90 different cancer genes. She said she had a normal mammogram that winter, but was diagnosed with breast cancer two months later.

A mammogram is an X-ray image of a person's breasts. Mammograms are commonly used to look for signs of breast cancer, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This procedure examines changes in a woman's breasts, such changes as a lump, breast pain, thickening or discharge from the nipples, etc.

"I'm lucky," added Munn. "We caught up with the time given by having several healing options. I wish the same for any woman who may face this one day," the actress emphasized.

Starting from the age factor or the period of birth of the first child, there are several factors that should prompt a woman to have a routine mammogram every year. Family history of breast cancer is another additional factor. "Because of that result, I had another MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan, which analyzed the situation with ultrasound, then a biopsy," Munn wrote.

According to the Mayo Clinic, a mammogram is always a procedure that detects breast cancer, while a biopsy determines whether the mass is benign or malignant.
