For the third time in the last five years, Vienna ranked first in the Global Liveability Index, according to the annual report published by The Economist Intelligence Unit . However, besides Vienna, other European countries make up half of the top 10 most livable countries in the world.
Copenhagen follows Vienna in second place, while Zurich takes third place. Geneva in sixth place, followed by Frankfurt in seventh. Amsterdam ranks ninth.
The report assesses which cities around the world offer the best living conditions and quantifies the challenges that may be presented to an individual in any given location and then compares the results between locations.
Each city is assigned a rating based on 30 factors in five general categories: economic viability, health care, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.
