A Florida bride and food company have been charged with serving food filled with marijuana.
Danya Shea Svoboda, 42, and Jocelyn Montrinice Bryant, 31, who cared for the food at the wedding, face charges of violating Florida laws against marijuana distribution and negligence.
On February 19, authorities arrived at the scene where emergency service specialists were caring for the numerous wedding guests because they had "symptoms that matched those of someone who has used illegal drugs."
They asked the bride and groom if they had accepted or requested that any of the foods contain cannabis products. The groom, Andrew Svoboda, "stared with a puzzled face for a few moments before stuttering a 'no,'" the arrest warrant said in a statement.
Authorities tried to find the catering manager. They collected glassware and used utensils, as well as snacks, including lasagna, chocolate strawberries, and pudding. Wedding guests had symptoms that felt "heavy" and "sick."
A guest who ate caesar salad said he "felt the stinging sensation, his heart started pounding and he had crazy thoughts", adding that he had used marijuana years ago, but this experience "felt different". The guest said he felt "weird, had a tingling sensation, was irritable and had an extremely dry mouth".
Another guest started vomiting as someone became paranoid saying her son-in-law had died and the family had not told her. Some guests went to the hospital, where THC was found in the blood. Food samples collected at the wedding also contained THC (THC - the substance that is primarily responsible for the effects of marijuana on a person's mental state).
