He once worked with the police officer who took his life: Who was George Floyd

George Floyd's death has sparked protests across the United States as citizens seek to end police violence and racism.

George Floyd was a colorless, unarmed man who died after a Minneapolis police officer held his breath, squeezing him in the neck with his knee for more than eight minutes.

George was transferred to Minneapolis after being released from prison, is known as the "sweet giant" and was trying to make a comeback in his life.

The 46-year-old was born in North Carolina and lived in Houston, Texas, in his youth, but moved to Minneapolis a few years ago to find work, according to his friend Christopher Harris.

Floyd was known by relatives as "Big Floyd" and was the father of a 6-year-old daughter who lives with her mother in Houston. Floyd also left behind a boyfriend, who is "heartbroken" after his death. "Waking up one morning to see the Minneapolis in question is something that would destroy Floyd," she told the Star Tribune. "He loved this city. He came from Houston and stayed here for the people and the opportunities [the country offered]. ?

George Floyd was a talented athlete who excelled in football and basketball when he was in school. One of his former friends, Donnel Cooper, said he "had a calm personality and a pure soul."

According to his daughter's mother, George did not finish school and started playing music with a hip-hop band called Screwed Up Click.

After trying to find a job in Houston, he left the city for Minneapolis. There, he did two jobs - as a truck driver and as a security guard at a Latin American restaurant.

According to court documents, Floyd was charged in 2007 with armed robbery. He was sentenced to five years in prison. In the latest video on social media, he came out openly against the use of weapons.

On Monday, George was arrested by police officers alleging he had used a $ 20 counterfeit card. In the footage of the arrest, he is heard saying "he can't breathe". George died at a nearby hospital.

Police officer Derek Chauvin has been arrested and charged with third-degree murder, as long as it has not been established that the murder was intentional.

A former bar owner said Floyd and Chauvin worked as security guards at the same location at the same time. At the time, Chauvin was doing a second job. She said police officer and Floyd worked in the same place, but I don't know for sure if they knew each other, but there would have been cases where they happened to be on the same night.

She claims that Chauvin often used pepper spray on people, saying he "lost toruan quickly" and "felt scared."
