Taylor Swift's lyrics seem to be as good as Shakespeare's, at least for university study. The University of Texas (UTA) has placed it on the curriculum alongside Shakespeare and other great literary names.
The Taylor Swift Songbook is included in the literature program and will analyze Swift's lyrics alongside writings and poems by well-known authors such as Geoffrey Chauce, Thomas Wyatt, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, John Keats, Emily Dickinson and Sylvia Plath.
“Focusing on Taylor Swift's music and the cultural contexts in which she and her career are situated, we will examine frameworks for understanding her work, such as poetic form, style and history. It is also an exploration of how the conventions of fairly traditional poetry are alive and reworked in contemporary music,” writes UTA.
Students will study the albums "Red (Taylor's version)", "Folklore" and "Evermore".
New York University offers a course based on Swift's work as a music entrepreneur. The institution awarded Swift an honorary doctorate earlier this year.
