Are you feeling bloated right now? Google Trends data shows that searches for "anti-bloat foods" have increased by 400% in the past 30 days, while the number of people trying to determine "causes of bloating" has doubled.
Belly bloating is an unpleasant and annoying sensation, but how to get rid of it?
Rhian Stephenson, a nutritionist explains to Vogue, the four main things that treat bloating:
Move as much as possible
If you move a lot, you will put the contracted intestines to work faster. "If you don't move a lot, it leads to constipation and bacterial problems in the gut," explains Stephenson. If frequent eating may be the problem, Stephenson recommends a 12-hour gap between dinner and the next morning.
Avoid raw food
"Raw food is hard to digest and makes bloating worse," says Stephenson. "Vegetables are excellent sources of fiber, vitamins and minerals, but you should reduce your intake if bloating is a problem." Replace raw foods with cooked versions until you start to feel better.
Drink apple cider vinegar
"In addition to having a protective effect, apple cider vinegar is excellent for digestion. It helps promote digestion by breaking down inactive forms of digestive enzymes into their active forms,” explains the nutritionist.
Drink the right amount of alcohol
Alcoholic beverages are known to be bad for your gut, but at least drink the right ones. Avoid champagne, white wine or sugary cocktails. Enjoy drinks that have less negative effects on your health.
