Shawn Mendes says he still loves ex-girlfriend and close friend Camila Cabello and the love for him will always last.
The singer spoke to Ryan Seacrest about their relationship now and the song dedicated to the split, "When You're Gone", which is about him. Cabello and Mendes announced the split in November, after two years of bonding.
"[We are] a lot of friends," Shawn said of the relationship now. "So I have loved Camila for so many years and that will never change."
For the song "When You're Gone", Mendes added, "I'm very happy that I can be real and authentic with my music, because it's important for me to be able to write about these things."
Mendes has said he sent the song to Camila to listen to long before its release. "Camila heard the song months ago, so we have a really honest relationship," he told E !. "I would never publish a song about her before she listened to it."
