U.S. intelligence officials have found no evidence that unidentified flying objects (UFOs) first seen by naval pilots in recent years were alien spacecraft from another planet - but they did not rule it out.
Officials could not explain the strange movements in the sky that continue to confuse US military and scientific institutions, reports the New York Times, based on information from senior administration officials who were informed of the outcome of a long-awaited government assessment of these phenomena. .
The report reveals that more than 120 observations in the last 20 years had nothing to do with any US military or other government technology, officials said.
Thus "senior informed officials acknowledged that the very ambiguity of the findings means that the government can not conclusively rule out theories that the phenomena observed by military pilots could be alien spaceships," the New York Times writes.
The analysis acknowledged that many details about the reports were difficult to explain, such as how the scary objects accelerated and changed direction.
Officials think that "at least some" of the observations of American pilots may have been experimental technology from a rival state, most likely China or Russia.
