The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has placed herself in the center of criticism from public opinion because she chose a private hospital to undergo a surgical intervention.
Through an official announcement, the office of the presidency announced: "Following the recommendation of specialist doctors, the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has undergone a minor surgical intervention (gall removal), which was carried out successfully."
After the announcement, the Clinic of Abdominal Surgery at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo expressed its indignation for the bypassing of the public institution.
"Based on the current situation, the College of Surgeons of Kosovo reacts to the omission that the President of the Republic of Kosovo Mrs. Vjosa Osmani did this to this institution by not seeking health treatment in our institution, but without consulting the leading staff at all, he received health treatment outside SHSKUK," says the statement signed by the doctors.
"Cholecystectomy is a routine procedure performed at the Abdominal Surgery Clinic since 1999, with a success rate of 99.9%. The ignoring and belittling that the president has done to the college of surgeons and in particular to the institution that he leads is unacceptable for everyone," it is written below.
Doctors wish the president a speedy recovery and ask that public health institutions not be neglected.
In the comments, many people write that Vjosa Osmani "as a citizen of the Republic of Kosovo has the right to choose whether she wants to be treated in private or public hospitals", but "as president she has a moral obligation to choose the KKUK for treatment before everyone other institution."
"If one of the leading people of the country does not trust the public health system, then how will the citizens trust them?" someone writes.
