This year's surprise series was, without a doubt, "Adolescence," a four-episode production that, in a single setting, narrates a teenager's involvement in the toxic world of misogyny and online violence.
After an incredible success on Netflix and enthusiastic reviews from critics, the series also stood out at the prestigious Emmy Awards ceremony, where it triumphed in the main categories: Best Miniseries, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor in a Miniseries, and Best Supporting Actor and Actress. The performance of Owen Cooper stood out, who, at the age of 15, made history as the youngest ever winner of an Emmy Award for Supporting Actor in a Miniseries.
But one of the most touching moments of the evening was undoubtedly the speech by Stephen Graham, one of the writers, producers and protagonist of the series, who received the award for Best Actor in a Miniseries. He took the stage, moved, and shared with the audience a personal memory from his childhood:
"These things don't usually happen to people like me. I grew up in a multi-ethnic family, in a mansion in a place called Kirby. Being here, in front of you, is probably the most humbling experience of my life. It shows that any dream, no matter how far-fetched it may seem, can come true."
In his acceptance speech, he put family at the center.
But the most heartfelt thanks were to his wife, Hannah Walters:
"I love you with all my heart. You are my world, my soulmate. I know very well that without you, I wouldn't be here. Without you, I probably wouldn't be here at all. I love you with all my being."
