A serious road accident on the evening of August 24 on the Saranda-Delvinë axis took the lives of two young sisters, Elvisa and Rozina Dhimaku, aged 22 and 20 respectively. Their friend, aged 24, was also seriously injured in the tragic incident and is under the care of doctors at the Trauma Hospital in Tirana.
According to preliminary police data, the incident occurred at around 8:00 PM, when 23-year-old Kevi Norra, a resident of Fier and an employee of the Ministry of Interior, while driving drunk, made a wrong overtaking move on a segment with continuous lines and ended up on the opposite side of the road.
The head-on collision with the vehicle carrying the three girls was fatal.
The girls were traveling from the village of Kopaçëz in Delvina to the hospital in Saranda, to stay with their 10-year-old brother, who is hospitalized due to a serious illness. Elvisa and Rozina died on the spot, while the injured one was immediately transported to the hospital.

The driver, Norra, was breathalyzed and tested positive for a blood alcohol level that would have made him unfit to drive. He was arrested at the scene and is expected to face serious charges, including drunk driving, traffic violations, and manslaughter.
Additional information suggests that the Dhimaku sisters had begun to build their lives through work and studies. Rozina was a student at the Faculty of Medicine, while Elvisa had started working in Delvina.
Meanwhile, the aunt of the two girls spoke to Top Channel, indicating that the sisters worked two jobs to cure their sick brother:
"We live in such great pain, I can't talk much. The two maids left me, they never came back. In the evening, the maids had left to go to work. They were working two jobs to help their brother recover. They came home from work, calmed down and went to work again because they worked in Saranda, selling corn. 30 minutes after they left, the news came. They left!
"The boy doesn't know anything about this, he was very attached to them. We have removed him from the house. Anyone who can, please help us cure the boy and save him," she said, moved.
The tragic event is another serious case that once again brings to attention the need to respect traffic rules and stricter control over drunk drivers.
