Britain woke up this Friday for the first time in 70 years without Queen Elizabeth II at the helm.
Tributes have poured in from around the world for her departure, who passed away aged 96 after the longest reign in British history. During this period she oversaw the British empire until its last moments, weathered global turmoil and domestic scandal, welcomed 15 prime ministers and significantly modernized the monarchy.
The Queen's eldest son, Prince Charles III, is expected to become king. During the next few hours and days, the calendar of memorials and events in honor of her life and contribution will be made public.
Thousands of citizens have placed flowers outside royal residences, embassies or cathedrals.
Today King Charles III is expected to travel from Balmoral to London with his wife, Camilla, now Queen Consort.
Bells are expected to ring in the Queen's honor at Westminster Abbey, St Paul's Cathedral and Windsor Castle at midday as the government is expected to confirm a time of national mourning.
The king will make his first televised address to the nation as the new king of Great Britain.
