Kiara Tito announced that her grandmother, Maria, has passed away.
"Farewell, Grandma Maria. I will always miss your voice, your hugs, and your prayers. Rest in peace!" Kiara wrote in a photo of herself with her late grandmother.
Losing grandparents hurts a lot because for many of us, they represent pure love, heritage, childhood, and are a bridge to our roots. Losing them is more than just the absence of a loved one, but also the fading of memories associated with the aromas of cooking, hugs, and stories.
The pain also comes from the awareness that, with the departure of our grandmothers, another chapter of childhood, of innocence, of the place that gave us security, closes.
However, losing them is an inevitable process, so below you will find some ways you can cope with such a drama:
Allow yourself to cry.
Cry, express your feelings, and talk to someone you trust. Suppressing your feelings will only delay the healing process.
Share your memories
Tell stories, see photos, listen to the songs they liked, cook the recipe their grandmother/grandfather used to make. This is how you keep their presence alive.
Honor him.
You can light a candle, plant a flower, place something that represents them in a corner of the house.
Talk to others.
Share your pain with family, friends, someone who understands you. Talking helps ease the pain.
Give yourself time to grieve .
The wound of loss will remain, but over time you get used to it. Focus on the beautiful memories and remember that people die when they are forgotten.
