Like winter, a Game of Thrones movie seems to be finally coming. The project, which is preceded by the television series adapted from the saga of books "A Song of Ice and Fire" by George RR Martin, is in the early stages of development by Warner Bros. Pictures. Because discussions have just begun, no actors, screenwriters or directors have been confirmed yet.
"There may need to be an important factor to tie things together," the books' author, Martin, told the media in 2014 when discussion of a possible movie opened. "Something like a budget feature, like $100 million in two hours. Those dragons get really big, you know?".
"It's out of the question," said Kit, who plays Jon Snow in the series, about doing a movie in 2023, saying the reason for the cancellation was that the creative team "couldn't find the right story to tell."
After all, it's the leadership changes at HBO and Max's parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, which have influenced development decisions for the Game of Thrones universe, according to Martin.
"All the changes at HBO Max have affected us, of course," he wrote in a December 2022 blog post.
“Some [projects] are moving faster than others, as is always the case with development. Some have been shelved, but I would disagree that they are dead. You can take something out of the drawer as easily as you can put it back again," concluded the writer, leaving open the possibility of making the long-awaited film, although he may not be part of the process of its creation.
