Israel launches airstrikes on Yemeni capital Sana'a
Israeli air forces struck Yemen's capital, Sana'a, on Thursday, according to the Houthi rebels' media office.
Residents reported powerful explosions in the southern and western parts of the city.
The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the attacks.
The bombings occurred as the Houthi satellite television channel, al-Masirah, was broadcasting a recorded speech by their leader, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi.
France, Germany and Britain call for reinstatement of UN sanctions on Iran
France, Germany and the United Kingdom on Thursday began the process of reinstating United Nations sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program, following a 12-day conflict with Israel in June, during which Iranian nuclear facilities were bombed several times.
This mechanism, known as "snapback" by diplomats who negotiated the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA), is designed to prevent it from being blocked in the UN Security Council and is likely to enter into force.
The reimposition of sanctions includes freezing Iranian assets abroad, halting arms deals with Tehran and penalizing any developments in its ballistic missile program, hitting the country's already fragile economy even harder.
UN votes to end UNIFIL peacekeeping mission in Lebanon by end of 2026
The United Nations Security Council voted unanimously on Thursday to end the mandate of the UNIFIL peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon after nearly five decades of operation. The decision came at the request of the United States and its close ally, Israel.
The US initially sought to end the mission within six months, but later agreed to a final extension of one year. UNIFIL will now continue its activities for a final 16-month mandate, until December 31, 2026.
Within this period, the mission will have time to withdraw 10,800 people, some military and civilian personnel, as well as all UN equipment. During this time, UNIFIL will be authorized to carry out only limited activities.
Zelensky: Russia chooses missiles instead of diplomacy
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has sharply criticized Moscow after a massive airstrike that hit several Ukrainian cities in the early hours of Thursday, saying that "Russia chooses ballistic missiles instead of the negotiating table."
"These Russian missiles and attack drones are the clear answer to all those in the world who have been calling for weeks and months for a ceasefire and real diplomacy," he wrote in a post on the X platform.
Despite the attacks killing at least 18 people, the Kremlin has stated that it remains interested in "peace talks."
