Hungary sues EU over financial aid to Ukraine
The Hungarian government has filed a lawsuit against the European Union over its decision to provide billions of euros in aid to Ukraine from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets.
The lawsuit, directed against the mechanism known as the "European Peace Facility" (EPF), was initially filed with the Court of Justice of the EU, but has been transferred to the General Court.
The European Council decided last year that 99.7% of the interest earned on frozen assets of the Russian central bank would be transferred to aid for Ukraine through the EPF, a financial program that supports military assistance to partner countries. Ukraine benefits from 3 to 5 billion euros each year from this fund.
