A man wrote on Reddit that he is refusing to sleep in the same bed as his wife, who works as a gynecologist in a hospital. That's because she doesn't shower every day she comes home from work.
"I'm proud of the fact that my wife has such an important job, I'm not comfortable with the idea of ??sleeping in the same bed with her without showering first. I've asked her to shower every night before she goes to bed or after she gets home from work, but she thinks every day is unnecessary," he explained in his post.
His wife argues that she has good hygiene at work and outside. She wears gloves and takes precautions throughout the day to avoid spreading germs, but still, her partner is still worried.
"I don't think it's an unreasonable request for her to take a quick shower before bed. Since my wife doesn't want to do that, I've started sleeping on the couch in the living room," he continued, adding that now there is also a rift in their relationship.
Reddit users seem to have mixed opinions on the situation.
"I worked for years as a nurse. The first thing I did when I got home was shower. It doesn't matter how many measures I take at work," someone wrote. Others also share similar thoughts.
Another user has a different perspective:
"Do you know how careful doctors are in hospitals? She is not taking 'secretions' with her. You're basically calling a woman impure who is probably many times cleaner than you."
One adds: "You were free to ask and she was free to say 'no', accepting the consequences of refusal. You sleep on a bumpy couch and she sleeps alone."
