The Government of Kosovo has approved the decision to ban the use of TikTok in state institutions. In a meeting organized on June 28, it was decided to ban the application due to the cyber risks it carries.
The news was announced by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs in Kosovo, Bardhyl Dobra, who said:
"This decision aims to protect the state institutions of Kosovo against cyber security threats and actions which can be used for cyber attacks against the information technology and communication infrastructure of Kosovo institutions".
Further, he added:
"The government's decision obliges all public institutions that own and manage state communication networks to set the necessary technical restrictions to stop the operation of TikTok application services in official workplaces. Likewise, all public officials are required to remove the TikTok application and its installation files from official devices."
The Kosovo government also added that TikTok will be banned in institutions, following the example of other allied states. Even the European Union has banned the use of TikTok in its institutions, due to security concerns.
