It seems that Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom are no longer on the same emotional frequency.
Sources have confirmed to People magazine that the 40-year-old singer and the 48-year-old British actor have officially split, ending a relationship that lasted almost a decade - including an engagement, a daughter together and many comebacks after minor breakups.
Katy and Orlando met at a Golden Globes party in 2016, fighting – not for attention – but over a hamburger.
"He was never sitting at our table," Perry recalled in an interview for American Idol. "He reached out to take my burger and I said, 'Hey, that's mine!'"
That was enough for the relationship to start, go " Instagram-official " at Cannes, and then briefly stop in 2017. However, the two have been open about their dynamic relationship. "We're adults, we're friends, there's no drama," Orlando Bloom said after their first breakup. Spoiler : there was drama, but it was manageable.
After a comeback in 2018 and a few official red carpet appearances, Orlando Bloom proposed to Katy Perry on Valentine's Day 2019 — with her parents' approval, as tradition requires. Katy later confirmed her pregnancy in the music video for "Never Worn White," and in August 2020, their daughter Daisy Dove was born.
The planned wedding in Japan was postponed due to the pandemic, but the couple continued to support each other professionally. But, as with most romances that start with a hamburger and end with a slow chill, something went wrong.
In recent interviews, Katy spoke with great subtlety about the “spiritual and ego” sides that clashed between them. For a moment, it seemed like they had both figured out “mature love.” But even mature love gets tired. And sometimes, there’s no blame, no drama — it just doesn’t work anymore.
