Nick Reiner, accused of killing his parents, says his arrest is a 'conspiracy'

Nick Reiner, who is accused of murdering his parents, Michele and Rob Reiner, the well-known director, doesn't understand why he's in prison.

According to TMZ, the 32-year-old allegedly believes that the people who put him behind bars are involved in a “conspiracy” against him, a source revealed on Friday. The source also added that Nick is allegedly aware of the crime, although he has suffered a disconnect from reality.

This development comes after his court appearance was postponed for the second time on January 7th, after his attorney, Alan Jackson, unexpectedly withdrew from the case. Two days earlier, Nick Reiner's attorney informed the judge that he "had no choice but to withdraw and seek a discharge." Nick will now be represented by the Los Angeles County Deputy Public Defender, and the next hearing is set for February 23rd.

Nick appeared in court again on February 7th where he spoke only once during the hearing to say he agreed with the change of lawyer.

On December 14, Michele and Rob were found stabbed to death in their home by their daughter, one night after they had a big argument with Nick. He was 78 and she was 70. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that the couple died from "multiple stab wounds," classifying the case as a homicide.

Later that night, Nick was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He faces the maximum penalty of life in prison without the possibility of parole, or the death penalty.

Nick has two siblings: Romy, who found her parents' bodies, and Jake.

Following the murders, it was reported that Nick had been diagnosed with schizophrenia before the incident and had a long history of drug addiction. The accused, who was under the care of a psychiatrist for mental health issues, had reportedly become “more irritable” in the weeks leading up to the murders.

During that period, doctors had changed his medication, which reportedly caused Nick to "go crazy."
