In the poll we conducted today, Mateo was chosen by a wide margin as the most favorite resident in "Big Brother VIP Albania 5". And why, at least so far, does the public seem so positioned on his side?
Looking at his behavior at home and the way he's being read outside of it, there are a few reasons why Mateo might be so well-liked at the moment:
1. Mateo came as a nice surprise
In a program that is supposed to be filled with VIPs, Mateo did not enter with "star" status. A personal trainer by profession, with a past on "Për'puthen", which is enough information to immediately prejudge someone, he did not seem like a resident who would dominate.
But he quickly emerged as polite, calm, and articulate, shattering the low expectations that existed for him. It was this contrast that turned Mateo into a positive surprise.
2. Relationship with Brikena
From the very beginning, the story of his previous acquaintance with Brikena created a narrative. A relationship interrupted by family factors, a kiss that Mateo insists happened and Brikena denies it, and that's all it took for the audience to immediately connect with the drama of a romance that didn't happen.
In this story, Mateo was perceived as more honest and trustworthy, while Brikena was more reserved in her version. The audience loves the romance, but also the figure of the boy who insists on his feelings, while maintaining boundaries and respect for the girl he likes (although for some, it was not right for Mateo to tell his story with Brikena).
3. He is not afraid to show empathy.
From the very beginning, Mateo did not hide his emotion over the loss of a close friend when he was mentioned, according to him, disrespectfully by another resident. He cried, spoke openly and did not try to mask this moment. A man expressing empathy, in 2026, works for the audience.
4. It looks like you're not playing.
In a reality show where everyone is aiming for the big prize, Mateo gives the impression that he is not building any obvious strategy. Ironically, this indifference to the goal of winning is exactly what the audience likes, even in programs where the grand prize is "fought".
Mateo doesn't seem to be calculating his moves, doesn't speak in codes, and doesn't try to sell himself as a great player. Perhaps, this big difference from previous "heroes" (especially Luiz and Gestio), is what is making the public like him more this time.
5. He is independent.
Mateo is not part of groups, he does not behave like someone's "soldier", but he does not avoid clashes either. He expresses his opinion, he maintains his attacks and does not change his position according to his interests. This independence positions him as a fair figure in the game.
6. He is very charming :)
Unlike the classic archetypes of "BBVA" heroes, Mateo represents another model: tall, sporty, charming, but also kind. The combination "charming + sweet" always works, especially for the female audience.
7. He only has eyes for one girl.
Mateo has made it clear that he has feelings for Brikena and keeps his word. He doesn't flirt with other girls, doesn't take advantage of situations, and sets boundaries respectfully. He saves Brikena from being nominated, doesn't react angrily when she nominates him, and continues to be gentle with her. This emotional stability of his is greatly appreciated.
