36 of the top 100 global universities are in Europe, a somewhat significant increase from the 28 universities Europe had in the Top100 since the 2011 Times Higher Education university rankings list.
Apart from three British universities, namely the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, and Imperial College London, only Switzerland's ETH Zurich has been ranked in the Top 10 in the last 13 years.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings is a list published annually. For 2023, the list includes 1,799 universities from 104 countries and regions. The ranking takes into account: teaching, scientific research, transmission of knowledge and international perspective.
Being in the Top10 is something very prestigious for top universities. Universities in the United States and the United Kingdom dominate the Top 10 ranking.
