Europa Nostra, through its representatives, namely the Executive Vice President, Mr. Guy Clausse, the Secretary General, Mrs. Sneska Quaedvlieg-Michailovic, and the board member, Professor Paolo Vitti, organized a virtual meeting with President Meta.
Meta said that "the demolition of the National Theater is a constitutional issue, of historical heritage and national identity, now a European issue."
"We agree on the necessity of launching an INTERNATIONAL INVESTIGATION on this issue and further informing the highest European levels." - The president emphasized.
Europa Nostra, which has been opposed to the demolition of the Theater building since its inception, is a pan-European federation that focuses on protecting Europe's cultural and natural heritage. Europa Nostra, whose president is Plácido Domingo, is cooperating with the European Union, the Council of Europe and UNESCO.
In 2020, Europa Nostra included the National Theater in the "7 Most Endagered Programs" which identifies monuments and sites endangered in Europe and mobilizes public and private partners to protect them. The churches in Voskopoja and Vithkuq, as well as the Durrës Amphitheater, are included in the same program. The program serves as a catalyst for action and awareness.
