Forget the logos: French & Italian girls are choosing these outfits lately

If your social media feed has been invaded by photos of Amalfi, the alleys of Saint-Tropez, or balconies overlooking Positano, we know what you're thinking:

"Why does the whole world look like they're in an old French movie, with natural lighting, wine in hand, and zero big logos?"

While many may think that "European summer" is synonymous with expensive handbags and big-name clothing, the girls who truly have style, the French and Italian ones who dress simply and beautifully, teach us something else.

Instead of big logos, they opt for natural pieces in neutral colors, and always put the emphasis on effortless elegance. Here's what they've really been wearing lately and what you can copy to look like a "European muse."

1. Loose skirts with dots

A sheer satin skirt, a cotton blouse, and low-heeled sandals are the French girl's summer uniform. Light, "flowy," and very feminine, this is the simplest way to make that sweet life without too much fuss.

2. Linen sets (the unofficial uniform of the Mediterranean)

If you don't have at least one linen set this summer, are you really in Europe? Girls in Positano, Capri, and the Côte d'Azur are embracing these white or earthy combinations as a combo that works from breakfast, lunch, and dinner by the sea.

3. Striped shirts

The loose striped shirt, like the "dad" shirt, is the secret weapon of every European summer wardrobe. France, Italy or Greece, everywhere we see girls wearing it open over bikinis, partially tucked into wide-leg pants or simply tied at the waist. 

4. Knitted sweaters

Crocheted swimsuits have become a must-have for hot days. In sheer pieces, in soft or neutral colors, this is the coolest way to show off your swimwear without looking too "exposed."

5. Super simple bikinis

Triangular, monochrome, clean. No unnecessary details, no "bling-bling". European girls have realized that a classic bikini, in black, white or red, is much more seductive than any extravagant model.

6. Dresses like nightgowns (like something out of an old French movie)

You know those white dresses with thin straps and slits that look like they're always blowing in the wind? Yes, the ones that look like 50s nightgowns, but are actually a real weapon of sensuality. French girls wear them with old leather sandals... or barefoot.

7. Silk scarves

It's not "European summer" without a silk scarf tied in your hair, around your neck, or on your bag handle. If you want to look like you're straight out of the '70s, this is the detail that makes all the difference.
