Actor Brendan Fraser has spoken about his 20-year-old son, who has autism, and how much his son and other children with autism have inspired him in his life and career.
"I'm not an expert on spectrum distortion varieties, I'm a father and I can talk about that. My son Griffin has a verbal delay, in fact, he has from an early age. When we were told the diagnosis, it was like being struck by lightning, as I think many of you can understand how surprised we were," Fraser said, adding that there was also a lack of information about his son's diagnosis. .
The actor went on to express the frustration he felt during that period, revealing that no matter who he consulted, or how much he tried to get an answer on the cause of autism, he was still faced with the phrase: "for reasons unknown," and Fraser added that while he tried To "correct" the diagnosis, he had to fight and learn from his son, in order to provide him with everything he needed.
Brendan shared with others what he has learned over these 20 years and the people he has met in his life who have children with autism, or work with these children: “Of all the individuals I have met over the years, who have experience with families and children, all say that they are learning at the same time as children with autism".
The actor has previously mentioned his experience with Griffin and said that, in fact, he inspired him a lot for his role in "The Whale", for which he also received the Oscar as the Best Actor.
"He's just turned 20 and he's a big kid, he's got big hands and feet. I understand best what it's like to live with an obese person", the actor said at the time.
He also called Griffin the "happiest man", since he, due to autism, does not know what cynicism or irony is.
“Well, because of the beauty of his spectrum – you can call it a disorder if you like, I disagree – he knows nothing about irony. He does not know what cynicism is. No one can insult him and neither can he insult anyone. He is the happiest man in my life and in that of many others, also a manifestation of love".
