No more Grammys! Drake and The Weeknd have opted out of the 2023 Grammy Awards, marking the second year in a row that both Canadian artists have declined to attend, according to Vibe.
Both musicians have expressed their frustration with behind-the-scenes Grammys.
When the 2021 Grammy nominations were announced, thousands of people were surprised to see that The Weeknd - one of the most successful and acclaimed artists of the year, whose song "Blinding Lights" became the first song to stay in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot100 for a full year - was not nominated for any awards.
"Because of the secret committees," the Weeknd said, "I will no longer allow my label to submit my music to the Grammys."
Secret committees are board members who are alleged to have relationships with various artists. According to the allegations, the board is believed to manipulate the process to ensure that certain songs or albums are nominated.
"The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency!” said The Weeknd on Twitter after the list of nominated singers was made public.
After him, Drake also reacted, who not only publicly supported The Weeknd, but at the same time also opposed the academy.
