The husband of famous tennis player Serena Williams, Alexis Ohanian has long talked about the traumatic period that the couple had to go through during the girl's birth. In September 2017 the athlete brought the baby to life through an emergency Caesarean section.
The most dangerous part, came after her birth. Serena suffered from pulmonary embolism (a life-threatening condition that occurs when clotted blood or any other material blocks a pulmonary artery) and had to undergo several successive interventions.
During an interview with The Guardian, her partner recounted how this affected their lives.
"My wife and I had almost everything, we had a family, great careers and every other opportunity to enjoy the arrival of a child and still experience a period that left us with trauma."
After giving birth, Williams spent 6 weeks in bed and so had her husband take care of the baby even though he had never held one so long.
"I learned how to change diapers and do all the other things to fit that little man who came into our lives for whom we were responsible. I had a calm and confidence that led me to good results. Nothing it separated me from my wife and daughter in those hours, days, weeks, and I'm so happy that I was never forced to choose between my family and my career. "
