Afrim Berisha, father of 11-year-old Alvin Berisha who is in Syrian camps, has written a public letter to the relevant institutions. The letter was delivered to Faxweb.al's editorial office through Berisha's lawyer, Darien Levani.
The letter is as follows:
Alvin Berisha is an Albanian child who is currently in Syria near the Al Hawl camp.
In 2014, when he was only 5 years old, Alvin was taken to Syria by his mother, without his father's knowledge. Her father, Afrim Berisha, has not spent days without looking. Neither war, fear, remoteness, economic hardship nor ISIS have stopped it, with the conviction and love that only a father can have. Five years later, on September 25, 2019, he found Alvin in the camp, hugged him firmly, and promised that they would no longer be separated. But the Kurdish forces guarding the camp did not allow him to take it with him, because approval must be sought and obtained from the Albanian State.
Alvin is only 11 years old, Alvin is injured and needs urgent treatment, Alvin is lonely, Alvin is scared, Alvin must leave Syria as soon as possible.
The competent Albanian institutions are aware of this situation and are working to enable its return to Albania. We have full confidence in the work they are doing both for Alvin and for all other Albanian citizens currently in Syria.
We are confident and hopeful that if everyone does their job, Alvin will be back soon. But we are also worried because the war in Syria is intensifying and time is not promising. There are 73,000 people in Al Hawl living in a terrible situation, which scares us. If we make our pain public today, we do so just to please anyone who can help us: working faster, giving us information on Alvin's condition, supporting us even in a word good.
Today we ask for help. Tomorrow, no matter what happens to Alvin, we will ask for an account.
With respect,
Afrim Berisha
