After the high-profile trial that exposed the former couple's troubled life and marriage, Amber Heard recently appealed the court's ruling that she must pay Johnny Depp over $10 million in damages.
Heard's attorneys filed documents in Fairfax County District Court. They intend to appeal the ruling, as well as the judge's decisions after the ruling, including denying Heard's request to vacate the ruling and dismiss the lawsuit or seek a new trial.
“We believe the court made errors that prevented a fair verdict consistent with the First Amendment. Therefore, we are appealing the decision," a spokesperson for Heard said in a statement. "While we understand that today's decision will stoke fires on Twitter, there are steps we must take to ensure justice is served."
"The jury heard the extensive evidence presented during the six-week trial and reached a clear and unanimous verdict that the defendant herself defamed Mr. Depp on numerous occasions," a Depp spokesperson said in a statement. "We remain confident in our case and that this decision will stand."
Depp sued ex-wife Amber Heard for defamation over a December 2018 Washington Post article in which Heard described herself as "a public figure who represents domestic abuse."
