7 foods that affect people's happiness, according to science

Achieving happiness is almost a common goal, no matter how we try to achieve it. With therapy, exercise, meditation, we all want a little dose of peace and happiness in our everyday lives. But it seems that what we eat also plays a very important role in how we feel. There are many studies that link food with our mental well-being and the level of serotonin (the hormone of happiness) in our brain, so pay attention! What we consume has an absolute impact on our mental and physical state.

And if your mission is to feel happy every day, here are some foods you should consider!

#1 Dark chocolate

There are three main compounds found in chocolate that are associated with feelings of happiness: tryptophan, theobromine and phenylethylalanine. Tryptophan is an amino acid that the brain uses to make serotonin, while the other two directly affect your overall well-being.

#2 Banana

This fruit plays an important role in regulating your mood, as they are rich in vitamin B6, which is very necessary for the creation of serotonin, the hormone of happiness. One banana has 0.4 milligrams of vitamin B6, approximately 25% of the recommended daily allowance.

#3 Coffee

The favorite drink of more than a billion people around the world. A 2016 analysis concluded that coffee consumption significantly lowers the risk of depression, improving the mood of those who consume it.

#4 Avocado

Avocados are packed with nutrients, including choline, which the body uses to regulate the nervous system and general mood. A 2020 study found that the healthy fats found in avocados are linked to reduced anxiety in women.

#5 Blackberry

Did you know that eating more fruit means better mental health? Berries are rich in antioxidants, known as flavonoids, which reduce symptoms of depression.

#6 Fermented foods

Foods that undergo a fermentation process such as sauerkraut, kefir or yogurt help improve the health of the intestines and digestive system, but also your general condition.

#7 Mushrooms

Mushrooms are packed with vitamin D, which has anti-depressant qualities that directly improve your mental state.
