Justin Bieber sold his entire music catalog for $200 million in December 2022 due to financial difficulties. This information was revealed in a new documentary titled "TMZ Investigates: What Happened to Justin Bieber?", which aired on the Hulu platform.
According to the documentary, Bieber had amassed a fortune of around $500 million to $1 billion during his career, but eventually "had to sell his music catalog because he was on the verge of financial collapse," the documentary says.
This collapse, according to sources, was a consequence of debts incurred after the cancellation of his "Justice World Tour" in 2022. Furthermore, his then-manager, Scooter Braun, had advised him to wait until January 2023 to make the sale and benefit from a tax break, but Bieber had decided to sell it immediately due to his dire financial situation.
In the documentary, TMZ executive producer Harvey Levin said that "in 2022, he was on the verge of financial collapse," and that he "had to sell his catalog." Another TMZ executive producer, Don Nash, said that Bieber would have made $90 million if he had completed his Justice World Tour, which was canceled in September 2022 to prioritize his health.
The documentary also mentioned that Bieber had spent a lot of money on luxuries, including eight buses for his tour and large expenses for the renovation of one of them, as well as trips on luxury jets and purchases of villas with cash.
The documentary comes a month after a The Hollywood Reporter article also claimed Bieber was left millions of dollars in debt after the tour was canceled. At the time, a representative for the music star called it "clickbait" based on unknown and unreliable sources.
However, a source told PEOPLE that the Grammy Award winner, who welcomed son Jack Blues in August with his wife Hailey Baldwin Bieber, is "dealing with a lot of different demons right now."
"He's been making some really bad decisions lately, further affecting friendships, money and business. People are worried about him," the source said.
