Diddy's trial is being told to us through sketches rather than photos, but

Diddy's trial is one of the hottest topics of the moment, as everyone is watching with great interest the shocking case of one of the most influential people in the music industry. The founder of "Bad Boy Records" was arrested in September of last year, after numerous lawsuits for abuse, rape, blackmail and sex trafficking.

The progress of the trial is being shown to the public not through photos (unlike, for example, the Amber Heard - Johnny Depp trial), but through sketches that depict the actions of Diddy and other participants in the trial. But why do we only see sketches and not real footage from the much-discussed trial?

Federal courts ban cameras

Diddy's case is being held in federal court, where the use of cameras, video recordings or live broadcasts is prohibited. This is a long-standing regulation in US federal courts, to protect the privacy of the people involved and to ensure a fair trial, as well as to avoid media spectacle inside the courtroom.

Using court sketchers

Since cameras are not allowed, courtroom sketchers are there to visually document the proceedings. Sketches give the public a glimpse of what happens inside the courtroom, while respecting its strict rules.

State VS Federal Court

In some state courts in the US, cameras are allowed in special cases, but federal courts are much stricter and almost always prohibit cameras, especially in sensitive cases such as sex trafficking, rape, etc., as well as in trials such as those involving celebrities like Diddy.
