Prince Harry has said he is desperate to reconcile with the royal family, but claims his father, King Charles III, "refuses to speak to him."

In a shocking interview with the BBC, Harry said that strained relations with the family have been ongoing for five years and have worsened following the British government's decision to remove his publicly funded security after he gave up royal duties and moved to the US in 2020.

“There have been many disagreements, many differences between me and some members of my family,” he said.

"This situation that has been going on for five years, which concerns people's lives and safety, is the most critical point. It is the only thing that has remained hostage between us."

Harry admitted that some family members will never forgive him for many things, including the fact that he published the autobiographical book "Spare" in 2023. In that book, he recounts a physical altercation with Prince William regarding his relationship with Meghan Markle, as well as mentioning previous scandals such as the Nazi costume, for which he blames William and Kate Middleton.

He also claims that King Charles joked that Harry's biological father may have been one of Princess Diana's ex-boyfriends.

Despite all this, Harry says he would like to reconcile with his family:

"There is no point in continuing to fight. Life is precious and I don't know how much time is left for my father, especially after his cancer diagnosis in February 2024."

However, he emphasized:

"He doesn't talk to me because of the security issue. But it would be nice if we agreed."

If his family doesn't want to agree, he said that's a choice that's up to them.

The prince of two children – Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 3 – said he does not see a future where he would return with his family to the United Kingdom:

"My children will lose everything related to my birthplace. This is very sad."

However, he stresses that he loves Britain and always has, "despite what some people in that country have done."

Harry added that his father has the power to resolve this situation:

"Ultimately, everything can be solved through it. Not necessarily by intervening, but by allowing the experts to do what is necessary."

The Royal Palace's reaction

After the interview was published, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson responded by saying:

"All matters relating to the security of The Duke of Sussex have been independently, thoroughly and repeatedly reviewed by the relevant courts. In each case, the same conclusion has been reached. The decisions have been made by RAVEC – an independent committee acting in accordance with security practices and in the interests of national security. These are not decisions taken by the Royal Family individually and cannot be interfered with by them."
